The Child Care Centre Cook will be responsible of all aspects of the food services including food ordering, preparation and ensuring that the health and safety requirements are met. The Cook works with the School Age programs to order food and prepare snacks when required. All aspects of the Cook’s role will be performed while working within the framework of the vision, mission and program statements and the policies and procedures of DCCCCI, the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), 2014, the Child Care Centre Licensing Manual and How Does Learning Happen?

• Part-time, Temporary, Casual
• Wage from $18.15 per hour
• Schedule: Monday to Friday
• No weekends!
• Expected hours 25 – 40 hours per week

Duties:

• Prepare daily hot nutritious lunches, as well as morning and afternoon snacks for children 0-12 years
• Ensures the food is cooked and served at the required internal temperatures and follows all safety guidelines
• Assume responsibility for the overall cleanliness and appearance of the kitchen area
• Assist in preparing for evening functions at the centre (ex. parent meetings, special events, fundraising events, workshops, board meetings)
• Communicate openly with staff members and parents so as to promote the best program and care of the children
• Support the in the creation of menus and submit to the Program Supervisor for review
• Participate in and adopt our values, mission, and program statement

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 or equivalent; Diploma or Certificate in Food Handling or related post-secondary certification an asset
• Safe Food Handling Certificate
• Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
• Current First Aid and CPR Level C or be willing to complete this within two months of employment
• Clear Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Check from within six months or be willing to complete this upon employment
• Up to date immunizations
