General Farm Worker - Livestock

Tamarack Swine Genetics Ltd., West Elgin County
Hours:  6:00 to 15:30,  40-55 hours/week
Schedule: Early morning, Mornings, Days, Weekends
Term: Full-time, Permanent
Expected Start Date:  Immediately

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose livestock health issues
  • Disinfect pens, barns or poultry houses
  • Handling animals
  • Marking livestock as proof of ownership
  • Monitoring animal health
  • Perform livestock feeding
  • Perform pig littering activities such as clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medication(s), identification of piglets, and castration
  • Treat livestock health issues
  • Weaning
  • Feed and tend animals
  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment
  • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
  • Maintain livestock performance records
  • Maintain quality control and production records
  • Clean stables, barns, barnyards and pens
  • Maintain work records and logs
  • Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry
  • Perform general farm duties
  • Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops

Experience and Specialization:

Equipment and machinery experience –

  • Automated manure handling or storage system
  • Feeding and watering system
  • Tractor
  • Farm truck
  • Loader
  • Manure spreader

Automated systems experience –

  • Bulk grain or feed handling – automated
  • Automated environmental control equipment
  • Manure handling and storage

Area of specialization –

  • Swine
