Part-Time: 24 hours per week (Tuesday – Friday 10am-4pm) with additional hours for special events.

The St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre is seeking a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Education Assistant / Instructor to support and deliver art education programs for children, youth, adults, and community groups.

This part-time position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, has a passion for the visual arts, and is interested in helping create meaningful and engaging art experiences for the community. Some experience teaching, instructing, or leading groups is beneficial.

Position Summary:

The Education Assistant / Instructor will assist with the planning, preparation, and delivery of art classes, workshops, school programs, community programs, and support special events. The successful candidate will work closely with Art Centre staff to support a welcoming, creative, and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Assist with the development and delivery of art education programs, workshops, and classes

·       Teach or support instruction for children, youth, adults, and community groups

·       Prepare supplies, materials, classrooms, and studio spaces for programs

·       Help maintain clean, organized, and safe classroom and program areas

·       Support school visits, outreach programs, and community partnerships

·       Assist with special events, exhibition openings, fundraisers, and public programs as needed

·       Provide a welcoming and positive experience for students, families, visitors, and volunteers

·       Support program registration, attendance, and basic administrative tasks

·       Help promote creativity, confidence, and engagement through hands-on art experiences

Qualifications and Skills:

·       Interest, education, or experience in visual arts, art education, museum/gallery education, or a related field

·       Some experience teaching, instructing, assisting in classrooms, or leading groups is beneficial

·       Comfortable working with children, youth, adults, and the public

·       Strong communication and organizational skills

·       Creative, reliable, flexible, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

·       Ability to prepare art materials and assist with studio/classroom setup and cleanup

·       Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for programs and special events

·       A current Vulnerable Sector Check is required
