Job Description:

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated summer students to join our team as Downtown Student Ambassadors. This role involves a variety of tasks focused on promoting and beautifying downtown St. Thomas.

Ambassadors will assist with maintaining a clean, welcoming environment while supporting local businesses, assisting visitors, promoting events and attractions, and contributing to beautification efforts. As a representative of the Downtown Development Board (DDB), ambassadors play an essential role in ensuring a positive experience for all visitors and residents, highlighting the vibrant downtown community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Beautification & Cleaning: Assist with garbage collection, sweeping sidewalks, and keeping downtown areas clean, welcoming and reporting any issues.
  • Visitor Assistance: Provide directions, information about local businesses, events, and attractions, and distribute promotional materials.
  • Local Business Support: Build relationships with downtown businesses, share updates, and gather feedback for the DDB.
  • Event and Promotion Assistance: Support event setup and tear-down, promote activities through social media and direct interaction, and help create and distribute promotional materials.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with visitors and community members, gather feedback, and share insights with the DDB.
  • General Duties: Maintain a professional demeanor, participate in team training, and follow organizational policies.

Note: The above list highlights some of the key duties, but this position may also include other tasks as required to support downtown initiatives.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for community involvement
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms
  • Comfortable performing manual tasks (such as sweeping and garbage collection)
  • Previous experience in event support or promotions is a plus
  • Summer Student opportunity
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number
