Position Summary/Overview:

First preference will be given to Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Band Members who are seeking an opportunity to develop their skills, experience, and knowledge in this area of work.

Summary:

The IT Support Technician is a 6-month contract position that will provide front-line, on-site technology support across Chippewas of the Thames First Nation. A primary objective of this role is to create, implement, and maintain a Nation-wide inventory of hardware, software, licenses, subscriptions, technology assets, and user access. This junior-level role is intended for an individual with foundational IT knowledge, strong customer service skills, and a willingness to learn. The IT Support Technician will support staff with day-to-day technology needs, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, configure and deploy laptops and desktops, assist with access and approval processes, set up technology for meetings and events, and work with the Nation’s third-party IT vendor where remote or helpdesk support is required. This position will also support the development of the Nation’s future IT structure by helping centralize technology information, strengthen access management, support secure storage practices, and contribute to more standardized technology processes across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day technology support to staff across departments.
  • Troubleshoot basic computer, printer, login, internet, software, and access issues.
  • Set up laptops, desktops, monitors, phones, cameras, and other equipment for staff.
  • Support technology setup for meetings, presentations, and community events.
  • Work with the Nation’s third-party IT provider to escalate more complex issues.
  • Respond to technology support requests and help coordinate follow-up.
  • Complete a basic inventory of technology equipment, software, licenses, and subscriptions.
  • Track equipment assignments, replacements, approvals, and user access.
  • Support basic setup of new computers, including software installation and workstation preparation. Help organize technology records, shared files, and related documentation.
  • Develop simple IT processes, instructions, and support materials for staff.
  • Provide basic orientation to staff on common technology tools and equipment.
  • Research and recommend technology products for future purchasing.
  • Identify common technology issues and recommend ways to improve efficiency, security, and staff support.

Qualifications

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Computer Networking, Help Desk Support, or a related field
  • A combination of related education, training, and practical experience may be considered
  • Junior-level experience providing IT, technical, helpdesk, or desktop support is considered an asset
  • Experience troubleshooting common workplace technology issues is preferred
  • Experience configuring laptops and desktops, maintaining inventories, or supporting software and access requests is an asset
  • Strong interest in developing practical IT processes, asset management systems, and standardized approaches in a growing organization
  • Experience maintaining records, inventories, approvals, subscriptions, or related documentation is an asset
  • Comfortable learning new systems, tools, vendor processes, and organizational procedures
  • Experience working in a First Nation community, public sector, or community-based organization is an asset
  • Knowledge of both Windows and Apple products is an asset
