The Elgin Business Resource Centre (EBRC) is seeking a creative, energetic, and community-minded Marketing & Communications Officer to help promote entrepreneurship, support local businesses, and strengthen awareness of our programs and services throughout St. Thomas and Elgin County.

As a key member of our team, you will lead marketing and communications initiatives, coordinate workshops and events, manage digital content, deliver the BizLink business outreach program, and help connect entrepreneurs and businesses with the resources they need to succeed. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys storytelling, relationship-building, event planning, community engagement, and supporting small business growth.

The Elgin Business Resource Centre (EBRC) is a non-profit Community Futures Development Corporation dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses through financing, advisory services, training, and economic development initiatives. We are committed to helping businesses start, grow, and thrive throughout St. Thomas and Elgin County.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and implement marketing plans to promote EBRC programs, services, workshops, financing opportunities, and special initiatives.
  • Create engaging content for social media, websites, newsletters, media releases, and promotional materials.
  • Manage and maintain EBRC’s social media presence and website content.
  • Coordinate advertising and promotional opportunities in community publications and media outlets.
  • Develop client success stories, testimonials, and promotional campaigns that showcase the impact of EBRC programs and services.
  • Ensure consistency of the EBRC brand across all communication channels.

BizLink Program, Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Coordinate and deliver the BizLink Program, including planning and conducting business visits throughout Elgin County.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses to identify opportunities, challenges, and support needs.
  • Promote EBRC programs, services, funding opportunities, and business supports through direct outreach.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate resources, programs, and community partners.
  • Collect and share business intelligence to identify emerging trends and issues impacting the local business community.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with municipalities, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, educational institutions, and community partners.
  • Represent EBRC at community events, networking functions, trade shows, and outreach activities.
  • Support initiatives that increase awareness of entrepreneurship, small business development, and local economic growth.

Event & Workshop Coordination

  • Plan, coordinate, promote, and evaluate workshops, webinars, networking events, and special initiatives.
  • Manage event logistics including registrations, venues, technology requirements, speakers, and participant communications.
  • Work with community partners, facilitators, and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality programming.
  • Gather participant feedback and recommendations for future programming.
  • Promote events through multiple communication channels to maximize attendance and engagement.

Resource Development

  • Research, develop, and maintain business resources, guides, tools, and educational content for entrepreneurs.
  • Source and share information on business supports, funding opportunities, training programs, and community resources.
  • Maintain online resource libraries and information repositories.
  • Monitor emerging business trends and identify topics of interest for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Administration & Reporting

  • Track and report on marketing, communications, outreach, and event performance metrics.
  • Maintain records related to communications activities, BizLink visits, events, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to support continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to organizational projects, strategic initiatives, and other duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong content creation, storytelling, and editing abilities.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, websites, and digital communications.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and event coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and common marketing and communication tools.
  • Experience with graphic design, photography, videography, and content creation.
  • Knowledge of entrepreneurship, small business development, or economic development is considered an asset.

  • Diploma or degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Economic Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in marketing, communications, event coordination, community engagement, economic development, or a related role.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
