Employment type: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 40 hours/week
Schedule: Will require to travel including Sarnia, Oakville and Hamilton
The Mechanic will work independently and/or in a small team environment repairing and servicing various types of construction and railway equipment. Work will be conducted in field environments with travel between various locations being required which include Oakville, Sarnia and Hamilton.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Inspect and diagnose issues on rail/construction equipment such as locomotives, trackmobiles, loaders, and forklifts
- Perform preventative maintenance, repairs and overhauls
- Track all inspections and repair/maintenance work performed; keep accurate records of all work that has been performed
- Establish daily and weekly schedules for equipment maintenance and repair
- Maintain and care for all work areas, vehicles, and tools used to perform the equipment servicing
- Provide quality customer service and interface with the operations teams when on site
- Promote and guide others to understand the daily requirements to effectively service and maintain equipment
- Being on call periodically (Splitting Duties)
Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:
- Possess certification as a qualified locomotive mechanic, heavy duty mechanic, or have extensive experience working on industrial equipment
- Ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize workload
- Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, work in confined spaces and maneuver in/through/around equipment easily and safely
- Ability to carry out production planning and meet Workplace Safety & Health standards
- General computer skills with ability to learn new processes
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license, Forklift license, CROR certification and any safety certifications required to access various sites including clear drug and alcohol testing
- Ability to work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions with tolerance to fumes and odors; ability to work in small spaces
- Ability to take direction and work with moderate supervision
- Willingness to address emergency service problems at any time of day or night
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience performing heavy equipment/locomotive mechanical repairs and maintenance;
- Mechanic certification an asset
- Experience working in an industrial and/or rail environment
- Valid class G license
- CROR certification and/or the ability to obtain and maintain
