Job Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Parks and Forestry or designate, assists with the maintenance of parkland, park facilities, recreational trails and the municipal greenhouse. This position is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the maintenance and upkeep of all municipal parks and open spaces including the maintenance of sports turf, landscape areas, municipal gardens, tree and plant inventories with a focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement processes.

Job Description:

  • Assists in the overall maintenance of snow removal, horticulture, turf, athletic field, recreational trails, and forestry maintenance.
  • Operates various types of equipment, mechanized grounds maintenance and grass cutting equipment.
  • Performs general park maintenance such as sanitation, cleaning, painting, and other related maintenance.
  • Maintains and assists in making minor repairs to park facilities and furnishings, ie. park benches.
  • Assists with setup and take down of equipment, as required.
  • Clears and maintains park walkways and entrances including snow shovelling.
  • Assists in greenhouse work/maintenance, as needed.
  • Performs other such related duties, responsibilities and functions as may be assigned.

Note: The major tasks and responsibilities outlined above are representative but not all-inclusive. All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition. This position must be compliant with all provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, related to “Duties of a Worker.”

  • Salary: $17.60/hour
  • Employment type: Temporary, Full-time
  • November 2025 up to April 2026
  • Schedule: Weekends as needed, Day shift

Working Conditions:

  • Required to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Must be physically capable of performing duties including bending, lifting, digging, shoveling, etc.
  • May be required to work near traffic
  • Possible exposure to hazardous materials
  • Required to work outside and beyond the normal hours of work including weekends, evenings and early morning schedules

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in municipal grounds maintenance and horticultural is considered an asset
  • Previous experience with grounds maintenance and grass cutting equipment is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of parks and forestry maintenance
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate parks-related equipment
  • Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions
  • Requires the ability to effectively deal with members of staff and the general public
  • Ability to work effectively with co-workers as well as the ability to work independently
  • Must be computer literate including knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Minimum Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma (OSSD – Grade 12) or equivalent

Other:

  • Ontario Driver’s Abstract required
  • Must possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transportation
  • Possession of a valid “DZ” Ontario Driver’s Licence is considered an asset
  • Corporate Orientation and Health & Safety Training
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check
