In this role, we are looking for a confident, versatile Purchasing and Logistics Assistant to join our team. Working directly with our General Manager, this person will be performing logistics while aiding the purchasing department with ad hoc duties. A love of continual learning and growth will be key to success in this position.

SUMMARY:

Logistics can be taught! Candidates must have high level organizational skills, able to multitask continuously, think outside the box to solve problems, self-manage and be detail oriented. Candidates that possess these skills could be successful in logistics.

It’s not hard, but it is fluid and priorities can change hourly. The ability to shift from one task to another without pause, or confusion, is essential. Accuracy is vital when submitting documentation to government agencies.

Collaborating with the multiple internal departments, the Purchasing and Logistics Assistant is responsible for quoting and arranging domestic and international freight. There will be a lot of interpersonal communication relationship building as the role focuses on communication with overseas partners, vetting potential partners, and works alongside many of our internal stakeholders.

Wage: $24-$28/hour depending on experience.

Full-time permanent position.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Quote and arrange freight domestically and internationally via various platforms.
  • Communicate with overseas partners to maintain relationships and vet potential partners.
  • Facilitate the customs clearance process for shipments, including communication with customs authorities.
  • Validate and maintain Certificate of Origin (CUSMA/USMCA/CETA).
  • Keep up to date and organize records of shipments, costs, and ETAs.
  • Assign proper tariff HS classification codes for imported/exported goods ensuring the correct duty is calculated.
  • Auditing duty invoices.
  • Assist Purchasing & Logistics with day-to-day tasks.

Qualifications

  • Able to work on-site in St. Thomas; No remote options.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; able to make quick decisions with confidence
  • Advanced-level knowledge and capability with MS Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Demonstrable communication skills; written, verbal, active listening.
  • Must be able to work independently and with others.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with Sage 300/ACCPAC or other accounting software.
  • Experience arranging international logistics.
  • Experience in the purchasing and/or logistics roles.
  • Administrative experience would be an asset.
  • Experience in Canadian and US customs. HS codes, tariffs, duty rates etc.
  • Have an understanding of Canadian customs processes to facilitate import and export operations.
  • Knowledge of CBSA guidelines and protocol, CARM an asset.
