Roaster Apprentice

Description

At Las Chicas del Cafe we are offering a truly rare opportunity to learn and explore sensory

coffee roasting in a supportive and informative environment. A love of coffee is appreciated but

not required.

The most important components as a sensory coffee roaster will be patience, curiosity and

flexibility. To be a coffee roaster at Las Chicas de Cafe requires an interest in palate development, roasting skills and teamwork.

To train and develop palate familiarities in correspondence with roasting practices in conjunction

with recorded and intuitive sensory indications. Along with an education to fully operate and

perform basic maintenance for the Probat B12 coffee roasting machine.

Initial training for this position would largely entail an overall education of the coffee industry

and roasting process with a focus on our own Nicaraguan coffee. This will then allow for greater

insight and educational capacity while observing a current sensory roaster. Before the transition

of roasting with accompaniment for safety and quality assurance.

After satisfactory training is completed, daily tasks will be performed independently as follows.

Ignite and warm roaster to appropriate temperatures, perform as well as record scheduled and

necessity roasts to be potentially flavoured, ground and packaged by our packaging team.

Non-Daily tasks would entail basic roaster maintenance and coffee tastings to maintain and

further explore palate development.

Our work environment is very intimate, and although roasting is a singular position, teamwork is

essential to the flow of productivity at the roastery. Roasting is done individually but cupping and

roast developments are done as a team and reflected as a whole. A flexible and positive team

mindset is valuable as well as great attention to detail.

As for day-to-day tasks, you can expect specific roasting logs tracking each roast, explorative coffee cuppings with various sensory tastings, and various daily

cleaning tasks including monthly maintenance on the roaster.
